The Stern Team
Mike Monaghan: I joined Stern 20 years ago after many years of experience in vinyl and fiberglass window manufacturing including vinyl extrusion and fiberglass pultrusions. I built my resume with stints in the rubber roller business and running the industrial products division of Therma Tru. After that I was one of the three founders of what today is Comfort Line Fiberglass Windows and Doors. My technical experience in window design and knowledge of codes and testing has been instrumental in helping our customers design new products. I enjoy helping customers make better end products.
I am married to my college sweetheart Randi and we have 3 daughters. In my off time I enjoy spending time on the weekends at my family’s cottage and riding my bicycle with the Flying Slo Mo’s cycling team. What started out as a way to get in a workout has turned into my passion riding with a bunch of young kids keeping the “old man” of the group in shape.
Jon Shulsky: In 1985 I started with Schlegel weather-stripping as a regional sales engineer. I lived in Colorado and traveled the mountain states and southwest USA. I was promoted to National Sales manager Schlegel Corporation Based out of Rochester NY. I was responsible for all North America Window and Door Sales. In 1993 I accepted a position as the Mid-West Regional Sales Manager with May-Wood Door, so my family and I moved back to the Cleveland area. Since 1996 I have worked for Stern and Company as an independent sales representative. I have 31 years of experience in the window and door industry and believe maintaining relationships at all levels of the organization is the key to success.
I have raised two fine young men, married a wonderful lady, and have a large honey do list. I enjoy boating on Lake Erie, biking the trails and roads in the greater Cleveland area, skiing Colorado and other areas, and I golf when I can. I enjoy my family, friends and associates; thus giving me a busy, full, and rewarding life.
Ken Johnson: After a small stint in the pool and hot tub business I decided to bring my talents to the Window and Door industry. I started as an area sales rep for Preferred Engineering Products. Most people remember the "Tilt N Slide" hardware system and, depending on who you were, you either loved it or hated it. For me, it was the beginning of a what has become nearly 25 years in the industry. I was blessed to be hired in August of 1997 by Stern & Co. We sell for the top tiered window and door component companies in the industry and we strive to help our customers grow by supporting them with knowledge and superior hardware.
In my off time I enjoy spending time with my family at our lake house in Southern Ohio. I do enjoy the game of golf and competing in Triathlon, which is a sport I have just recently taken back up after several years of retirement. I completed my first half Iron man in August and look forward to another one in 2017. With Fall brings football and I am excited for the return of the Ohio State Football season..... GO BUCKS!!!!!!!
Barb Wells: I started off working at a glass shop that serviced apartment complexes with insulated glass units and replacement hardware. After a few years they opened up a window manufacturing plant, North Coast Windows, and manufactured the Wolverine Window. I joined Stern and Company in September of 1989. I have over 30 years experience in the window & door industry.
I have 2 sons and wonderful daughter-in-laws and a beautiful granddaughter that I enjoy spending every moment I can with! I like being outdoors, swimming, scrap-booking and spending time with my family and friends.
Deedee Pastor: It all began with 18 years in the advertising industry in varied positions ranging from media buyer and bookkeeper to marketing director and account executive. Then I landed back in Cleveland in 1993 at Stern & Company, where I managed finance and the company’s one Phifer Incorporated account outside the window industry (a national distributor of Phifer’s vinyl-encapsulated mesh furniture and sun-control fabrics). At the beginning of 2011, I became a Stern outside salesperson, continuing to manage this Phifer account.
Traveling the world is my leisure-time passion, as well as spending time with my 3 grandchildren along with their parents i.e. my 2 sons and daughters-in law. At home I can usually be found curled up with a good book, or in my sewing room working on yet one more quilt!
Nick Shulsky: I recently graduated from Kent State University with a degree in International Relations. I spent a little time in Washington, DC and Geneva, Switzerland before I realized that I had no desire to pursue a career in politics. I started my sales career in the craft beer industry and found a joy in developing relationships while indulging in a beer here and there! I started working with Stern in January of 2016 but my experience in the window and door industry goes back to when I was younger. My father, who is listed above, has been working in the window and door industry for 31 years. I also worked for a window manufacturer based in Cleveland for three summers while I was in college.
When I am not working I enjoy living an active life. Biking, golfing, and hiking when it is warm, skiing and snowboarding when it is cold. I enjoy traveling most of all. When you can not reach me you can bet that i am out experiencing other countries culture and food.
